“Sillons de Mémoires” refers to traces that inscribe themselves indelibly into bodies, biographies, and collective memories. At the heart of this music theatre performance are questions of home, migration, and displacement, as well as the fragility of memory and its simultaneous persistence. How vivid, how fleeting and ephemeral is memory? What happens when the memory of a place becomes fragmented, contested, or erased? How do experiences of war, crisis, and loss shape one’s self-image and one’s outlook on the future?

For the development of the piece with the percussion collective Eklekto, works by the Lebanese composer Dzovinar Mikirditsian and the Zurich-based composer Katharina Rosenberger, recipient of the Swiss Music Prize for her transboundary artistic practice, are interwoven into an installative setting. The audience is immersed in a pulsating sound world in which percussion, voice, and live electronics interact in complex and layered ways.

The libretto for Katharina Rosenberger’s composition Sam and Flavia – Récits of the Desert: Acts of Resistance are based on the Transborder Immigrant Tool poetry by Amy Sara Carroll. We thank Amy, Ricardo Dominguez, and the Electronic Disturbance Theater / b.a.n.g. lab for graciously making their poetry and recorded recitations available to us.
